EDO STATE TRANSPORT AUTHORITY INAUGURATES TRANSPORT WORKING GROUP.

The Edo State Transport working group, an initiative of Edo State Transport Authority was inaugurated on the 4th of July 2023 in the corporate office of Edo State Transport Authority.

The Managing Director of Edo State Transport Authority, Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor in the inauguration ceremony explained that the authority had obtained the approval of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to constitute a Transport Working Group made of representatives of all internal Transport Stakeholders to drive the transformation reforms required to reposition the transport sector to play its key role of driving social –economic development in the State. She explained the importance of the Local government in the transport sector and the need for all local government councils to collaborate through this initiative to ensure uniform development in infrastructure and regulation across the State.


She also informed the group that His Excellency has approved the development of a comprehensive master plan for the State and therefore urged all members to participate actively and come up with pace – setting and path – finding transport initiatives and solutions that will indeed Make Edo Great Again.

Also addressing the participants in the inaugural meeting session, the independent consultant, Edo State Transport Authority, Dr. Desmond Amiegbebhor explained to all committee members, that the working Group is a professional and non-revenue initiative.

He emphasized the objective to include promotion of collaborative, creative and inclusive planning towards providing transport solutions in Edo State.

While harnessing the knowledge, experience, expertise and skills of representatives in the eighteen (18) Local Govt Areas of the State, the working Group will provide feedback mechanism and inputs to the Authority to foster implementation of transport programs in Edo State.

The working Group comprise representatives of Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA), Ministry of Local Govt, Community and Chieftancy Affairs, Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Edo City Transport Limited (ECTL) and the eighteen (18) Local Govt Areas of the State. Edo State Transport Authority ESTA

As part of the Executive Governor’s drive towards efficient transportation for the development of the State, Edo State Transport Authority was established by law in 2018. Edo State Transport Authority is responsible for the planning, regulation and implementation of public transportation in the State. ESTA commenced operation in 2022.

ESTA has accomplished the following:


The construction of the Benin Central Bus Terminal, Obakhavbaye for the informal operators;

The award of the Comprehensive Transport Master Plan;

The award for the Construction of Truck Transit Parks (TTP);

The award and commissioning of 2 junction improvement works Kada Fried Roundabout on Sapele Road and Third Junction on MM/Sokponba Road Junction amongst others.
